Johnson recorded 29 songs in 1936 and 1937 and died at 27, but this 1961 LP of his recordings electrified a generation of British and American rockers. Cross Road Blues and Hellhound on My Trail fed the legend of the devil at the crossroads and seeded the vocabulary of rock guitar.
